McDonald’s Commercial from another country.
Description:
The commercial starts out with a young couple on a sailboat. The young exotic girl has been given a white rose by her good looking boyfriend. She drops it into the water by accident and he jumps in after it and gives it back to her with the rose clutched between his perfect teeth. In the background you can hear Meatloaf’s song “I’d Do Anything For Love (but I Won’t Do That)”. Then it pans to a new scene where the girl is trying on a dress at a shop and you can see the boyfriend in the reflection of the mirror smiling as she comes out to model the dress. Then the scene changes to a sports car that has died and the good looking boyfriend is behind the car pushing it while the pretty girl steers the car and turns her head to look behind her. The couple then arrives at McDonald’s and orders food. At first she is only going to order a Big Mac, but the boyfriend looks at her sweetly and says, “Combo.“ They proceed to sit at a table for two and then the pretty girl reaches for a fry, and the boyfriend grabs her wrist with a menacing look on his face. She tries to reach for the Big Mac, but he grabs her other wrist and she stands up and waits for him to come to her side of the table and stomps down on his foot. She then goes to sit back down and he pushes the chair out from under her bottom. He then sits down in the chair he just pushed out from under her and proceeds to eat his Big Mac combo. She looks at him with distain and leaves McDonald’s while he mocks her look and finishes his meal. The music ends with, “but I won’t do that.” Interestingly, the music is in English, but the writing for McDonald’s looks Arabic, and both actors have an accent. It is hard to tell where they are from because they only have two words of dialogue for the whole ad, “Big Mac, and Combo.”

Meaning:
The mood of the ad is one of young love and happiness in the beginning. The camera shots are of lovely places and expensive cars and dress shops. The lighting is bright and the days are sunny when the shots are outside. The commutation test doesn’t apply in this ad because there is little to no text to change. The use of that particular song was perfect since it conveyed the meaning of the commercial so perfectly.

Judgment:
The ad is supposed to remind you of your first love and some of the fun you had as a young couple. The whole advertisement was humorous and aesthetically pleasing. I am trying to think of McDonald’s current slogan, something like “I’m lovin’ it!”. Clearly, the good looking boyfriend loves his McDonald’s meal more than his girlfriend. I thought the ad was convincing in a humorous way.
